Zimbaremabwe began making music many years ago in Zimbabwe, led by Linos Wengara Magaya. They were well acknowledged then as a musical force, always in demand for spiritual ceremonies. The band also played top venues around Zimbabwe and played with names like Thomas Mapfumo.

Linos came over to England in 1997. He played many shows with artists like Chartwell Dutiro, Stella Chiweshe, Thomas Mapfumo; he also began establishing a UK based Zimbaremabwe band.

Linos and Zimbaremabwe now have many shows to their name, from festivals such as Womad and venues such as the Brighton Dome, Africa Centre in London; workshops for schools, SOAS university and special events including in Spain. We also work with the BBC in Brighton and feature on their Showcase project (click to follow the link).
Linos has been releasing an album every year for the last decade, which we are trying to make available again.

Below are some examples of past gigs and workshops:
Below these is a selection of
recent feedback on our work:

'Zimbaremabwe's music is both hypnotically ambient and upliftingly danceable. Playing in a traditonal style on traditional instruments augmented by more contemporary sounds, they bring with them a celebratory but dignified atmosphere that is perfect for almost any festival'.
(Mark Hewitt, Artistic Director, Lewes Live Literature Festival, 05/03/08)

'The workshops I have had the pleasure of attending are a real insight into the healing power of the Mbira'
(Daisy Lees, Arts LaOlam, 05/12/07)

'The children thouroughly enjoyed the workshop. It was well planned and we like the way that the children had some involvement in making music with instruments, singing and dancing, as well as seeing traditional Zimbabwean music and watching you perform'.
(Teacher's feedback (related by Mrs Lynch) after a school workshop, 19/03/08)
