About Zimbaremabwe

Linos Wengara Magaya, with MbiraZimbaremabwe is a collective of musicians, led by Linos Wengara Magaya, playing Zimbabwean music in traditional and modern styles. We perform regularly. We also teach traditional arts such as mbira music, dance and song......

Zimbaremabwe are based in Brighton UK, but travel the south of England regularly.

We have just launched the first in a series of course packages for learning Mbira. The first edition, called Kushaura 1, contains notation for 11 songs, plus vocals, plus an audio CD. See our Mbira pages for more details. We are beginning couses in Brighton, London and Hadleigh (near Ipswich).

Zimbaremabwe has its roots in the spiritual values of traditional Zimbabwean culture. In our work we display a positive image of this culture to share with all people, and do not involve ourselves with politics.

This website is being updated constantly. We have presentations of workshops and our music; there are pages about Zimbabwean culture where we discuss spiritual traditions in more depth. This includes mbira music and its role in ceremonies and healing.... The use of spiritual snuff (bute) and herbs in traditional healing.... Old stories of great people... Discussions from Linos about his own roots and those of his ancestors.... The history of the band Zimbaremabwe and the meaning of the name.

We also have a humble MySpace with full tracks to listen to.
